Depending on the wind conditions, blue bottles have been washing up on the shore of North Haven and Bonny Hills beaches as well as Towns Beach and Flynns Beach in Port Macquarie.

The hot weather has led to an influx of people at the beach, with a number of small assists taking place by lifeguards and volunteer surf lifesavers, however nothing major according to Mr Turnham.

“Since the weekend there haven’t been any rescues. Our main issue has been with blue bottles,” he said.

“There have been big swarms coming to shore and lots of people have been stung.”

Ambulance officers were called to assist people who were stung and suffered allergic reactions over the weekend.

“There have been a lot of people about at the beaches. Lighthouse Beach is one of the busiest, with people aware that blue bottles have been at Towns Beach and Flynns, however it all depends on the wind,” Mr Turnham said.

“All of the beaches have been quite busy, so our message remains the same – be careful.

“When it’s this hot and young children are coming to the beach, make sure they are kept wet, in the shade with a hat and plenty of sunscreen.”

The surf is flat and the water is crystal clear, which is perfect for swimming.

Mr Turnham also warned that the sand is almost unbearably hot to walk on in the soft area, which catches people off guard.
