As well as flights and five nights’ accommodation, Anne will also get the chance to walk inside the ropes during the event and play golf at the other two host courses of this prestigious championship – Kooyonga and The Grange.
Anne was automatically entered into a draw for the prize after encouraging a good friend, Graham Cumming, to join Kew Country Club during Golf Month in October 2016.
She was thrilled to hear that she had won such an amazing prize.
“It is quite out of the blue, and sounds like it’s going to be a wonderful week,” Anne said.
“I’ve only ever been to one women’s tournament before, on the Gold Coast, so we’ll certainly enjoy it.”
Over 400 golf clubs around the country conducted golf month activities, with thousands of participants taking part in events ranging from come and try days, to club competitions and social events.
An artist and gallery owner Anne, who plays off a handicap of 23 at Kew, only joined the club a few years ago after moving to the Mid North Coast from Grafton where she had been a member for over ten years.
Unfortunately a clash of events for Anne’s husband, Lee, means he can’t make the trip, so her good friend Penny Pepper is stepping into his place.
“My husband is doing other things, so my girlfriend Penny and I are going,
“We’ve travelled a couple of times together, to England, and Norfolk Island, we’ve been friends for a long time, “She’s a fairly keen golfer, she’s just moved to Kew CC from the Blue Mountains,” Mrs Falkner said.
The pair are looking forward to travelling to South Australia for the event, which runs from February 16-19. They will get to attend the gala dinner, and Anne will tee it up alongside one of the sport’s finest female professional golfers in the pro-am the day before the championship begins.
They will be guests at the champion’s cocktail party and sample some of South Australia’s finest wines at the Penfolds Magill Estate before getting to check out the world-famous Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Golf Australia Marketing Director Danny Bowerin was delighted to see a NSW winner.
“Golf Month is an industry and nationwide initiative, so it’s great to have a winner from a country-based club in New South Wales,” he said.
The 2017 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open will see seven-time major champion and World Golf Hall of Fame member Karrie Webb back at the course where she made her professional debut.
“Karrie joins our first female Olympians Minjee Lee and Su Oh in a star-studded line up,” Mr Bowerin added.
The $1.3 million championship, one of Australia’s premier female sports events, will also see world No.1 Lydia Ko and defending champion Haru Nomura returning to play.
