QUESTIONS FOR COUNCILLOR
I wish to respond to the letter in the Courier, dated January 25, from Dunbogan and Port Macquarie- Hastings Councillor Peter Alley. An interesting letter providing us readers/ratepayers with a practical use of primary school science and, with the greatest of respect, I would much prefer the councilor to use your pages and his writing skills in providing readers with updates of existing and planned projects, plus any other issues he thinks maybe of interest.

For instance:
- The school to school pathway
- The beach to beach pathway
- The resurfacing of Ocean Drive between Laurieton and the highway.
- The plan for the intersection of Ocean Drive and Sirius Drive Lakewood.
- Is there a plan to have a restriction on the size of vehicles that can use the new Stingray Bridge? (I am not a truck driver or a road planner but it seems to me that B doubles could have problems negotiating the bridge).
- There has been much talk of the unnecessary removal of trees for building developments. Perhaps Councillor Alley could provide his position on this.
I am sure that readers will have a list of questions that they would like answered but, for whatever reason, don’t ask. I am looking forward to pertinent and regular updates from OUR councilor.

READ ABOUT WATER
Re Water Worries, Courier 25/1/2017
For those members of the community worried about water supply, I suggest obtaining a copy of Council’s Integrated Water Cycle Management Issues Paper, prepared for Council by the Jacobs Group under Tender T-14-62 of February 2015.
In June 2016 I served Council with a freedom of information demand under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) for a copy of this Document. It was refused.
A review application to the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) was made, and in August the IPC rejected Council’s reason for not allowing access. In September 2016 I refused access again.
Another Review by the IPC in November 2016 resulted in Council being told to make another decision as their reasons weren’t valid.
Finally on 16 December 2016 Council provided access, but that access would be deferred until the Document was submitted to the NSW Office of Water, as was legal under the GIPA Act. It was to be submitted in December 2016.
By early 2017 the Document had still not been provided. In my opinion, Council was doing everything to drag this process out as long as possible, but after a heated exchange between myself and Council’s Governance Officer, the Document was provided a couple of days later.
So get yourself a copy and read up on the “facts”. Council cannot refuse to supply you with access to this 182 page Document.

I SPY
Coming home at 10pm from the dance on Saturday night, I was close to the Waterview Heights turn-off when I spotted the sharp ears and nose of a fox looking cautiously from the grass at the side of the road.
