I raised concerns about the new bridge where I addressed council some ten or 12 years ago in an open forum council meeting when mayor Rob Drew was in command. This was also in relation to semi-trailers crossing the new bridge on its completion. Also, my concerns on the mayhem of the semis enroute through North Haven, Bonny Hills and Lake Cathie.
My concerns were also in regards to an ageing population on how the semis would impact on their, and local, population. Plus a number of other concerns in relation to this matter.
The answer was, “the bridge will be constructed to state government regulation to accommodate semi trailers to 50 tonnes in weight”, if my memory is correct and not 80 tonnes?
Mayor Drew also made comment that semi trailers won’t travel across the new bridge as it will be easier for them to travel to Port Macquarie and beyond when the Pacific Highway is upgraded, bypassing Kew and the mentioned intervening townships.
I even wrote letters to the Camden Haven Courier on these concerns at the time.
Alan, I hope this throws a little light on your concerns.
