Riding their Harley Davidson motorbikes throughout NSW, Hog For Homeless – headlining Fittler – promote awareness of homelessness and raise money for Father Chris Riley’s Youth off the Street.
They visited the Town Green Inn for a luncheon and raffle, which included some fantastic prizes with all money going to the Youth off the Street program.
This year marks the tour’s fifth consecutive year and Perry said at the end of this ride they would have gotten over the $600,000 mark.
“I think it’s making a big difference in the community and for the cause,” he said.
“It gains momentum every year, and we will definitely be on the roads for a while yet after securing some three and five year deals with some of the sponsors.”
“It’s been a couple of years since we’ve been to Port but we’re really happy to come here for the last day of the tour.
“Everyone’s a bit tired, but we’re really keen to hear from the locals, have a yarn with everyone and raise some money.
“Our goal wherever we go is to give back to the local rugby league community, to raise awareness for Father Chris Reilly and for rugby league in general.
“We have a signed State of Origin jersey to donate back to the local footy community.”
Other prizes on the day included: A signed jersey with money going to the Port Macquarie Sharks juniors, eight signed rugby league balls and winning a Harley Davidson motorbike for a day.
The main prize, a Harley Davidson, will be drawn on Friday night on Channel 9 during the first of the two NRL games being played that evening.
It was not the first time Hogs for Homeless has been hosted in Port Macquarie.
Brad Fittler told Fairfax Media last week that deep down, everyone wants to make a difference and help the homeless.
Port Macquarie Sharks president Mick Cudmore was happy to see his club well represented at the luncheon, and was even happier to support the cause.
“Hogs for Homeless is a great initiative. There are plenty of homeless people in the community who need the help,” he said.
“As a club, we are happy to support initiatives like this. At the same time, for them to support local footy is great as well.
“Hopefully they can raise a lot of money from the trip.”
