Some years ago, Wash House Beach sand was removed by heavy seas and deposited across the bar entrance to the Camden Haven River.

Where there was a relatively safe passage to the right hand side, heading seaward, just as you pass the southern sea wall, there is now and has been since that storm, sand built up that needs dredging, as well as the entrance. At low tides, there is only about 2 metres under the keel, which makes for dangerous surf conditions in attempting to cross the bar.
Recently Sydney media reported that $8 million in state government funding is available to create long term dredging strategies. This appears to be a great opportunity for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to apply for dredging assistance, as to my knowledge, there hasn't been any dredging carried out by the council for many years.
Safe crossing of our river bar is greatly assisted by depth of water and dredging will help that aim, particularly when state government seems to be offering financial support to safer waterways.
