Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Pru Goward and Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said it was a positive step forward.

Ms Goward said Safer Pathway aims to ensure every domestic violence victim across NSW receives a consistent and effective response.

“Courageous victims who have been left traumatised and terrified will have easier access to the services they need. They will no longer have to re-tell their story to a multitude of government agencies,” Ms Goward said.

Safer Pathway brings together local representatives including police, health, corrections, Family and Community Services and education along with local specialist non-government domestic and family violence services, creating a streamlined, integrated referral pathway for victims who are ‘at threat’ or ‘at serious threat’ to their life, health or safety.

Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams welcomed the announcement that Safer Pathway will be rolling out to the Mid-North Coast LAC.

“Safer Pathway will change the lives of those affected by domestic violence in our community. The tailored support that this program provides is crucial,” Mrs Williams said.

The Mid Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy service will host the information and training sessions to service providers

Program co-ordinator Sandra Sheridan said a united and co-ordinated approach to helping women across the Hastings safely exit violent relationships is long-awaited.

“For women experiencing domestic violence we will now be offering a consistent and coordinated approach where services will be sharing relevant information and targeting support to the needs of that woman,” Ms Sheirdan said.

“We all need to be working together to keep women and their families safe.

“It means a woman won’t have to re-tell her story over and over again each time she comes into contact with a different service.

“This approach is proactive and action happens more quickly for a woman.”
