While the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council continues to monitor the situation, as managers of the reserve, plans are in place for the longer-term future of the reserve and other local beaches to create masterplans.
The masterplan for Lake Cathie reserve, a council spokesman said, will deal with the council’s future approach to issues such as dredging and erosion, alongside future infrastructure requirements.
In the meantime, orange barricades sit along the top of the worst section of the erosion to prevent the risk of fall by reserve users.
Group manager of recreation and building, Liam Bulley, said the council is working through the NSW Government’s Rescuing our Waterways grant application process with a view to lodging an application prior to the closing deadline of 23 June 2017.
“Council has received numerous submissions during the 2017/18 Draft Operational Plan exhibition period including a request for master planning of the Lake Cathie foreshore,” Mr Bulley said.
“All submissions will be presented to a councillor workshop for review and to discuss potential actions and budget implications. The 2017/18 Operational Plan will then be reported to the Ordinary Council Meeting to be held in June 2017. Council is continuing to monitor erosion at the reserve.”
