Over the next seven days, Wauchope and beyond will resound to the sound of motorbikes as the over-40 social club members who love bikes get together.
“The weather is great and the Wauchope Showground is looking terrific,” said event director Robert Johns.
“The Showground is shaping up to be absolutely fantastic, it’s great to see everybody and the weather is terrific. It doesn’t rain on my parade,” said event secretary Margot Russell.

The motorbike enthusiasts are camping all over the showground, some in their own tents, some in Tent City, others are at Timbertown, and all the motels and B&Bs have been booked up well in advance.
The Ulysses members are looking forward to a week of touring the area and seeing the sights, as well as a program of events including
- Meet and greet for members with a theme of convicts and wenches on Tuesday May 23
- Timbertown Concert and Stalls from 5pm, everyone welcome on Wednesday May 24
- Open Day at Wauchope Showground, everyone welcome, 10am to 4pm Thursday May 25
- Hastings Street festival with music, food and a motorcycle display 4-7pm, everyone welcome, Friday May 26
- Farmers Market in Bain Park on Saturday May 27
- Grand parade in Port Macquarie from Town Beach to Westport Park from 9am on Saturday May 27
Shirley Rose from Coffs Harbour first got on a motorbike when she turned 60, and she hasn’t looked back, as she approaches her 77th birthday.
“It’s great to be here at the AGM, where I can catch up with old friends and make new ones. Our forefathers were very bright in not calling us a motorcycle club. We are a social club with an interest in motorbikes,” she smiled.
Peter Baulch from the Ulysses national committee has been a member for 15 years.
“When I first joined, an old man said to me: ‘Ulysses is a three-letter word; it’s spelt F-U-N, and he was right.”
