The Hastings Auto Restorers’ Society annual Port Macquarie Swap Meet will have that plus ‘anything and everything’ for those who just love to browse for unique items.
The swap meet is on Sunday June 4 at the Port Macquarie Racecourse carpark.
Chris Whalley is a Society member and swap meet coordinator and says the event is a proven hub for motor vehicle enthusiasts.
“Plus, market stall lovers and those who look forward to browsing stalls for that something different, something unique,” he said.
“This is an annual event that is traditionally held on the weekend prior to the June long weekend,” he said.
“We think this is a great time of the year to host such an event which really gives motor vehicle enthusiasts the chance to purchase much-sought after parts.
“Importantly, over the last nine years, this event has raised over $48,000 which is donated to the Port Macquarie Base Hospital cancer care unit.
“The event actually started off 15 years ago – in 2001.”
Mr Whalley said the event started because enthusiasts were looking for a central place to go to source parts while giving the wider community the chance to look over some vintage vehicles.
“But the intention of this event is to give motor vehicle enthusiasts the chance to meet up, yarn and swap items of common interest,” he added.
The Port Macquarie event is one of several on the Mid-North Coast with Nabiac, Kempsey and Coffs Harbour also hosting their own version of a swap meet.
Between 2000 and 3000 people are expected to converge on the racecourse for the event. Admission has been kept to a minimum – it is $3 per adult with children admitted free if accompanied by an adult – while there are food and drink outlets also on site for the day.
Mr Whalley said the event attracts people from the Gold Coast and Sydney.
So far 150 stall holders have indicated they will attend with just 33 spaces remaining at $20 a site.
Shannons Insurance, Bunnings Port Macquarie, Coates Hire, Settlement City, Hastings Co-op IGA Wauchope, Port Macquarie Racecourse and the SES were among the supporters of the day.
