Here is a snapshot of what’s been happening at the school....
In Week 1, students attended Anzac Day services with School Captains Piper Facer and Callum Aldridge attending the morning ceremony along with fellow students marching in Laurieton.
The start of Didgeridoo lessons for Year 5 and 6 boys with local Birpai performer Steven Donovan was a huge hit. The boys are learning breathing and sound techniques on PVC pipe which will be decorated later in the term.
Week 2 included creative arts time in Year 1. Students also attended the Zone Cross Country at Bowraville with competition against other Catholic schools - congratulations to all students for their effort and sportsmanship displayed on the day.
A popular event during this week was the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program, which included Edison robotics.
During Week 3 of Term 2, students enjoyed spoiling their mums for Mother’s Day with a Liturgy and morning tea at school for all mums, carers and grandmothers.
The Week 4 School Athletics Carnival was also a great success with students and parents coming together and enjoying a variety of events.
Other highlights for this week were: First Reconciliation (these students will make their First Holy Communion at St Peter's Catholic Church in June). The 'Companions in the Faith' – program restarted for 2017 with parishioners spending time with students on a fortnightly basis as part of a well-being support program run at school.
Sewing Club – a group of students were involved in designing and carefully hand-stitching multi-coloured felt circles which have been adorned with buttons and joined together to create a decorative wall hanging – on display in the school. Well done everyone - It looks fabulous!
Week 5 was all about sport with students competing across a number of different football codes. There was the Schubert 7s inter-school league competition, a Rugby Union Gala Day at Crescent Head, a Touch Football Gala Day held in Port Macquarie, and a Touch Football skills program held for all students at school during sports time.
During Week 6 classes participated in National Reconciliation Week – decorating footprints for this year’s theme Let’s Take the Next Steps.
While in the sports arena, Chanel and Zoe represented St Joseph’s Primary School Laurieton in the Diocesan Cross Country. They finished eighth and seventh respectively. Well done.
Social class gatherings included bare-foot bowls and putt putt for Kinder and their Year 6 buddies, whilst Year 2 families enjoyed a fishing afternoon together at Dunbogan.
In Week 7, the school choir attended the Taree Eisteddfod with the junior choir winning a 'highly commended' for their efforts while the senior choir won the encouragement award, which included a gift voucher.
During Week 8, the school participated in an inter-school debating competition with St Agnes, Port Macquarie and St Joseph's will participate in this event again next term.
Senior Constable Wendy Hudson visited the school to speak with students about Cybersafety awareness including internet usage and social media safety for young users.
In Week 9, students, parents and teachers got involved in a Minnie Vinnies winter appeal - the school community generously donated bags of jumpers, tracksuits, gloves,scarves and other warm clothes to the local St Vincent de Paul store for this worthy cause.
