That’s how close this wonderful final was between Gay O’Connor and Robyn Stanton.
O’Connor was the eventual winner in what club officials have described as a nail-biting finish.
With the scores locked at 24-all and on the last end, O’Connor just edged out Stanton’s bowl with her last delivery.
And it required a measure from the umpire before O’Connor could claim victory.
As you can expect, the game was tense.
Gay said she felt ‘lucky’ to secure her first major trophy at Club North Haven.
“I was fortunate to get out to an early lead before Robyn got back into the contest,” Gay said.
“She was eventually able to lock up the scores before it came down to the final bowl on the final end.
“Robyn has actually been the runner-up in this event for five times … I felt a bit sorry for her.”
Gay said she enjoys the challenge and competition of bowls but also the social aspect as well.
“You get to meet a lot of new and different people,” she said.
Gay took up bowls about 18 years ago and some encouragement from husband Keith. She was a regular on the tennis court prior to taking up bowls.
