“Loneliness is a growing concern in this community and of course every community,” chairperson Theo Hazelgrove said.
“A lot of it is due to the economics of the day and the cost of living.
“People withdraw from society when they have physical and mental illness for instance.”
The organisation Mr Hazelgrove said works to bring people back to socially reconnect with society.
In most cases Mr Hazelgrove said people need a hand up not a hand out.
There are many services in the Camden Haven community which people can be linked to through the Camden Community @ 3 .
Members of the Camden Haven community have come forward to help the group.
“Lots of people come to us and say ‘I didn’t know that this was happening in my area’,” Mr Hazelgrove said.
The organisation meets behind the Laurieton United Services Club every Friday at 3pm and the Camden Haven Anglican Church at 6pm on Sunday to put on a meal for those who need it most.
On July 21 volunteer Ann Macinante helped with the barbecue.
She said it was great to see their spirits lift when they received a hot meal.
The organisation works to secure emergency accommodation for people who don’t have a permanent residence.
If you would like to put a donation towards the cause or if you are interested in joining the organisation please call Theo Hazelgrove on 0438 358 057.
On July 25 Oasis by the River will host a three course dinner for those in need.
Restaurant manager Brendon Lynch said he wanted to help give back to people who need it most.
The restaurant is expecting to feed 50 to 100 people on the night.
Mr Lynch thanked the wider Camden Haven community for its support.
