The Tactile Arts Group at Kendall currently has 20 members who meet at the Kendall Showground once a month. 

Treasurer Karen Brown said group members decided that working on anything ‘big and messy might be fun’. 

Ms Brown said people have supported and joined the group because they wanted a local pottery group based in the Camden Haven. 

“Eventually we plan to set up the shed as a pottery studio with wheels and kiln,” she said. 

The group has conducted a few workshops on making cement stone objects, mosaics and sculptures.

Member Barbara Crowe said she is passionate about pottery and the group is open to beginners. 

She said pottery isn’t a difficult skill to pick up. 

“You need a bit of a feel for the material but it’s very rewarding,” Barbara said. 

Karen said the group is a great way to meet new people who live in the area. They offer each other tips on how to improve their craft skills.

Barbara said a lot of the members are very skilled in different areas of craft and they have a lot to offer to others.  

The group are currently applying for grants, seeking donations and looking at fundraising to ensure the shed at the Kendall Showground has power, running water and equipment. 

The Tactile Arts Group at Kendall has a market stall at the Kendall Showground Markets on the first Sunday of each month. The work of members is showcased at the market. 

Karen and Barbara thanked the Camden Haven P A H & I Society for its support in helping the group secure a facility.
