On July 29 the Kendall Blues held their annual charity event with the generous support of Laurieton Stingrays, Long Flat Dragons and Comboyne Tigers Rugby League Clubs. The local league clubs combined to put on an awesome display of Rugby League for the community. The crowd and players dug deep and raised a very generous amount of money. All proceeds went to Ben Fletcher Multiple Sclerosis fund, Jess Higgins Breast Cancer family holiday fund and Give 5 for kids.

To the start the day our up and coming rugby league stars of the future showcased their talents. Big thank you to Camden Haven Eagles, Wingham Tigers, Taree Red Rovers, Wauchope Blues, Lake Cathie Raiders, and Port Macquarie Breakers JRLFC’s for travelling and supporting the Charity Day.
The curtain raiser for the Hastings games saw the Camden Haven Eagles under 13’s take on the ladder leaders and undefeated Taree Red Rovers. The Eagles showed the ability that their coaches kept telling them they had, and defeated the Taree Red Rovers. Two of our smallest players with the biggest hearts, Jacob Slater and Braith Langdon-Dawes proved they were just too quick and scooted across the line. Lachie Pye barged his way through some very strong defence. Conversion by Blair Scott was successful. Final Score was 14 to 10. Congratulations Eagles, soar high.
The first Hastings game saw the Laurieton Hotel Stingrays take on the Comboyne Tigers. It was the Tigers Matt Philpott who crossed first fourteen minutes in, then just three minutes later big Blake Debreceny charged over. Kyle Debreceny nailed both goals. The Tigers out to a handy 12 nil lead. The Stingrays hit back with some good lead up work to put in form centre Jackson Harper over out wide. Two minutes before the break the Tigers Jesse Smith scores in the corner, the boys head to the sheds. The Tigers leading the Stingrays 16 to 4. One minute into the second half front rower Blake Debreceney who was having a blinder crosses for his second try for the day, Todd Hurrell adds the extras the Tigers increase their lead 22 to 4. Some good football played by both sides for the next twenty minutes when Josh Dorrington scores for the Tigers, Todd on target again the Tigers in control 28 to 4. The Rays never gave up and were rewarded with two late tries, the first it was Jackson Harper his second for the day then Drew Bartlett bagged the last try, Kieren Roberts kicked both goals to leave the final score the Tigers getting up 28 to 16.
The main game for the day was the visiting Long Flat Dragons up against the in form Kendall Blues. The Dragons start the keenest and were all over the home side when their five eight Anthony Coombes crosses, the Dragons lead 4 nil. The Blues start to get some ball and kick into gear when Big hard to handle centre Brad Smith crashes over in the seventeenth minute. The Blues captain coach Beau Kettle next to score a couple minutes later, then Michael McInnes crosses with eight to go in the first half, Alex Pearce nails both conversions, The Kendall Blues lose Michael McInnes and Anthony Conlon to the sin bin but still lead 16 to 4 at the break. The Blues start the second half where they left off when Blayne Bignell crosses four minutes in from the whistle. For the next thirty odd minutes it was up and down the paddock with some good attacking raids and big hits from both sides but neither side could score. Sixty seven minutes in and the Blues loose another player Chris Hanlon to the sin bin but the Dragons couldn’t take the advantage and the Blues captain Beau Kettle crosses for the last try of the day on the hooter. The Blues winners 24 to 4.
Round 11 of the Hastings League comp remain Kendall Blues on 20, Comboyne Tigers on 20, Laurieton Stingrays 10, Long Flat Dragons 10, Beechwood Shamrocks 8, South West Rocks Marlins 4, and lake Cathie/Boardriders 2.
It was great to see the injured Daniel Minns on the side line and back in the shed with his beloved blues after the game, Minnsy suffered some serious injuries last week resulting in a short stay at Port Macquarie Base ICU.
Thank you to everyone that dug deep.
