The Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Club Grants Committee has injected $98,447 into 18 local community projects.
On Wednesday, August 9, Port City Bowling Club, Port Macquarie Panthers, Laurieton United Services Club, Port Macquarie Golf Club, The Westport Club and Club North Haven united at The Westport Club to recognise the vital role of community groups play in the local region.
Katy-Lee Waldron, co-chair of the committee, said a number of funded projects will target social-connectedness and the disadvantaged in the local community.
“This was a priority that our advisory committee confirmed needed funding in our LGA,” she said.
A combined funding grant was presented to Erin Denham and her team at Make a Difference Inc. This organisation has worked tirelessly over the past eight months to raise funds to implement an Orange Sky Laundry Van in the Port Macquarie-Hastings.
This service will provide a free clean clothes service to the homeless as well as an opportunity to talk to someone, seek resources (clothes, shoes, toiletries, blankets, information brochures) and referrals to services that can help (housing, soup kitchens, doctors, dentists, hospitals).
The $18,500 grant will go towards the $100,000 needed to purchase the van for the area.
“We are very proud to be recipients of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Clubs Grant,” Erin Denham founder of Make a Difference Port Macquarie Inc said.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to The Port City Bowling Club, The Westport Club, Port Macquarie Golf Club, Port Macquarie Panthers Laurieton United Services Club and Club North Haven for supporting our much needed service for the homeless.
“The $18,500 will assist us in the purchase of the van.
“Together you have all made a significant difference to the lives of people living in our local community. We cannot thank you enough.”
Other initiatives funded in this year’s allocation included $18,000 courtesy of Port City Bowling Club and The Westport Club for the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service White Ribbon Cup project.
Early Connection Port Macquarie-Hastings will receive $10,888 from Port Macquarie Panthers to provide supported playgroups to help young children with disabilities.
Port Macquarie Golf Club will support Tacking Point Surf Life Saving with the purchase of an IRB trailer and Laurieton United Services Club has supported a number of school in the region to provide programs such as Kitchen Playgrounds and sensory gardens.
