“It’s a brilliant promotion for the code.’’
However, he thinks it is time for the zone’s southern followers to get some more exposure to the A-League stars.
The Jets stayed over in the Mid North Coast last year but spent most of their time in Port Macquarie, where the match against the Football Mid North Coast southern and northern selections was played.
Next month they’ll conduct a coaching clinic in Forster-Tuncurry on Monday July 16 before heading to Port for further promotions and the trial game.
They’ll also run a clinic in Taree on the Wednesday. Bartley believes the code’s supporters in the Manning/Great Lakes deserve the opportunity to see the trial game with travelling to Port. He understands that FMNC have to comply with Newcastle’s requirements.
However, he thinks there should be a push for the trial to be played in the south of the zone and he’s convinced the Jack Neal Oval would be the place to host the match.
“Last year’s game at Port drew a great crowd – more than 4000,’’ Bartley said.
“But I’m sure we could get a similar number here.’’
