Our entire RBLS Branch membership wish to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Teresa and George Wise, Secretary of the RSL Laurieton Sub-Branch for their recent memorable visit to us in Wick, Scotland. Be assured George excelled as your outstanding ambassador in representing the RSL Laurieton Sub-Branch. The Scottish weather remained kind, at least dry, during George and Teresa’s participation as honoured guests at our own RBLS Mey Highland and Cultural Games on the 5 th August 2017. George seated in the Royal Tent certainly made an impression with our Games Chieftain, His Royal Highness, The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay during their conversations and especially so during a private cocktail reception held by Prince Charles at The Castle of Mey later that evening, attended by George and Teresa as His Royal Highness’s guests.

RBLS Wick is very proud that George Wise is our honorary member in recognition of his outstanding service to the RSL and veteran support. This was sombrely demonstrated by George’s dignified act of remembrance at the individual War Graves of all seven of the fallen Australian Servicemen who rest within our care in Caithness. We were privileged and are grateful to George, a knowledgeable and well-informed military historian for a most fascinating talk to our members on Australian military engagements from WW1 to Vietnam on the 3rd August 2017.
Our National Royal British Legion Scotland CEO Kevin Gray MM and Chairman Charlie Brown, along with Lt Col Sheldrick, Royal Regiment of Scotland and Gail Ross, Member of the Scottish Parliament all of whom travelled from Edinburgh, were amongst guests who enjoyed a formal dinner in George and Teresa’s honour at Mackays Hotel on the evening of the 4th August 2017. George, impressed our clansmen by fully immersing himself in Scottish culture and was certainly sartorially elegant upon arrival dressed in full highland dress including kilt. It is for Laurieton to enquire direct with George if he was a true Scotsman when parading in his kilt!
Our Branch was immensely honoured to receive the memorial shield presented to us by George on behalf of the RSL in Laurieton – thank you. Additionally, our branch was staggered and humbled by your members’ most generous donation of £200.00 (324.00AUD) from the Laurietion RSL Sub-Branch and a further kind personal donation of £100.00 (162.00AUD) from George, towards the restoration of the North Head Soldiers Memorial Tower, a unique war memorial pre-dating WW1 remembering those who served in the Napoleonic Wars.
On behalf of us all, it was a privileged honour but more importantly a huge pleasure to recently host George and Teresa Wise in Caithness, Scotland. Our RBLS Wick Branch, along with RBLS National, look forward in the interests of our mutual members to developing closer future links with the RSL in perpetuity.
