Before the Hastings League grand final on September 16 there will be a breakfast for some of the legends of Hastings league.
The two teams that contested the grand final back in 1992 were the Kendall Blues and the RSL Boardriders.
The Kendall Blues team consisted of 1 Allan Howe, 2 Harry Bell, 2 Paul Oneill, 4 Craig Pritchard, 5 Mark Hammond, 6 Merv Smith, 7 Barry Beauchamp, 8 Garry Smith, 9 Adam Gibson, 10 Jamie Bignall, 11 Tony Beauchamp, 12 Greg Wallis, 13 Will Robertson, 14 Steve Wallis, 15 Greg Smith, 16 Chris Patterson, 17 Bernie Cusack, 18 Harry Harris, 19 Tony Kennedy, 20 Paul Smith, 21 Graham Oneill, 22 Les Knox, 23 Darren Chapman, 24 Wayne one ill, 25 Jamie Bampton, 26 Ian Flemming.
Try scorers for the Blues that day were Allan Howe and Greg Wallis with Allan Howe converting one try and punting the ball over for a field goal. The final score Kendall Blues defeated Boardriders 13 to 10.
Many cold beverages flowed that afternoon to celebrate an awesome win. Kendall Blues had not won the grand final since 1985 and the drought was broken.
Greg Wallis was named the Kendall Blues Man of the Match.
Some of these players are now heavily involved in the training side of the current Kendall Blues side that will be contesting this year’s grand final.
The Kendall Blues have had an awesome 2017. They are the Hastings League minor premiers and on Saturday, September 16 they will go head to head with the Comboyne Tigers at Lank Bain Stadium to battle it out for the Hastings Grand Final title.
These two teams have a massive history between them.
They have always been two of the toughest teams in the Hastings competition with a long history of back and forth grand final wins.
This year’s grand final is set to be an epic battle of two great teams.
The Kendall Blues will be led onto the paddock by Captain/Coach Beau Kettle.
Beau is extremely impressed with the Blues.
“We have all had a great lead up to the grand final, win or lose I will be proud of what the Blues have achieved this year,” he said.
The Legends Breakfast will be served at 10am and all the players, coaches, trainers that were associated with those two teams are asked to be there at 9.30am.
The Kendall Blues will hold their presentation night on the 23rd of September at Kendall Club.
