The Camden Haven community has helped to raise $2000 to provide emergency accommodation for people who are doing it tough.

Oasis by the River restaurant manager Brendon Lynch organised a sleep out on August 19 to help raise money for the cause.

On Friday, September 8 Mr Lynch presented the cheque to The Camden Haven Community @ 3 chairperson Theo Hazelgrove.

Mr Hazelgrove said he was delighted to receive the donation on behalf of the group. He thanked the effort of Mr Lynch in organising the event and paid tribute to the generosity of all those who attended.

The funding will help provide 21 single emergency accommodation rooms for people in the Camden Haven.

Mr Hazelgrove said he knows of at least 10 people who are sleeping rough but there are many others who are couch surfing and don’t have a permanent residency.

The organisation Mr Hazelgrove said works to bring people back to socially reconnect with society.

In most cases Mr Hazelgrove said people need a hand up not a hand out.

The organisation is aiming to set up an emergency accommodation fund. The group has received donations from local Camden Haven op shops.

The Camden Haven Community @ 3 meets behind the Laurieton United Services Club (LUSC) every Friday at 3pm and the Camden Haven Anglican Church at 6pm on Sunday to put on a free meal for people who are homeless or lonely.

Mr Hazelgrove thanked LUSC for providing the space for use on Fridays and all the volunteers who help with the barbecue and contribute food each week.

If you would like to volunteer for the Camden Haven Community @ 3 or make a donation please call Theo Hazelgrove on 0438 358 057.
