The walk was organised by members of the Camden Haven Historical Society and all funds raised from the day went towards the Camden Haven Museum.
Mike Dodkin from the Camden Haven Historical Society said about 11 local residents took part in the event with others visiting from interstate (QLD) and international (UK). The group visited some of the town’s historic relics and heritage listed buildings located in Laurie Street.
The tour included two of the town entertainment centres, to reflect on past times in the late 1800s and up to Feb 1959 when the Plaza Theatre appeared on the landscape of what today is downtown Laurieton. The now digitally equipped art deco Theatre, took over the role of the monthly film screening by the travelling picture show from the School of Arts.
Both venues continue as popular entertainment venues in the Camden Haven.
One attendee said they would like informative signage to be implemented to educate people on Laurieton’s historic places and buildings.
Another congratulated the Camden Haven Historical Society volunteers on the event.
If people are interested in doing the Heritage Walk, the society will take groups of up to 10. The cost is $5 per person which can be arranged through the Museum at opening times.
All proceeds go to the Camden Haven Museum.
