The Mid Coast district covers the area from Karuah up to the south of Kempsey.
The worsening conditions today (Tuesday September 19) come close on the heels of several fires last week including a blaze that closed The Lakes Way in Tuncurry on Wednesday and another that threatened properties at Missabotti near Bowraville.
It was an ominous reminder that a dangerous fire season is just around the corner and came in the lead up to Get Ready Weekend 2017. Mid Coast RFS stations were among 540 across the state to open their doors as part of the awareness initiative.
Temperatures across the Mid North Coast will heat up into Tuesday afternoon and strong wind gusts are also predicted.
Port Macquarie and Taree are set to reach 28 degrees with Kempsey likely to reach 31 and Coffs Harbour 30.
Strong north-westerly wind gusts of up to 45 km/h are also on their way and with the prolonged dry weather and several fires already burning, firefighters are bracing for the day ahead.
With the worsening conditions and little rain on the radar fire permits have been suspended indefinitely.
