Lake Cathie - Bonny Hills Lions Club chose to focus on the Lake Cathie Skate and Recreation Park Project in 2017. This year the club celebrated 100 years.
Project committee member Clare Gray said they have had fantastic support from local businesses.
“We’ve also had support from the community with fundraising each month with barbecues outside Lake Cathie Woolworths and Port Macquarie Bunnings,” she said.
Mrs Gray said the area of Lake Cathie is progressing very quickly and it is essential to keep up with the needs of the community.
“Our health and wellbeing are number one in our lives,” she said.
“The high percentages of obesity and diabetes in our country are of great concern.
“Recreational facilities are a must.”
Mrs Gray said the Lions Club had been a huge asset to the project.
“We also thank the support of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council which provided a grant of ten thousand dollars,” she said.
Mrs Gray said the groups are working to provide a recreational park for everyone.
“We aim to provide a park with all the facilities and infrastructure that caters for young families, teenagers, the elderly and disability,” she said.
“It will be landscaped to work into the beauty of our beautiful lake.
“We want families to be able to relax and enjoy our beautiful foreshore.”
