With the school registered for the first stage of kindergarten to Year 2, enrolments for term 1, 2018 are now open.
The development works at the site will start shortly and include modernised toilets, improved fencing and entry ballustrade, and dedicated off-street parking. Playground and garden improvements are also on the drawing board.
The Table Street premises offer access to the nearby Kooloonbung Creek Reserve.
Spokesperson Alanna Alfaro says interviews for trained and experienced Steiner teachers will commence next week.
“Applications from teachers are currently being processed to select the foundation staff for the school,” she said.
“Steiner Education is modelled on the work of Rudolf Steiner, based on the development of the child in every aspect – physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally.
“Steiner Education helps to connect children to their natural environment, cultivates reverence and respect for one another and the world around us, integrates the arts in all aspects of the curriculurm, brings liveliness to learning, and appreciates the special qualities of childhood.”
I think there is an upswell of people looking for alternative education opportunities. Port Macquarie will certainly be a bit of a destination now with choices getting better for education.
- Alanna Alfaro
While the latest push to establish the school got underway in March last year, Ms Alfaro said attempts to start a Steiner School stretched back some 15 years.
She said Port Macquarie is ‘ready for the school now’.
“Port Macquarie will be aligned with other major centres who have established Steiner Schools,” she said.
“I think there is an upswell of people looking for alternative education opportunities. Port Macquarie will certainly be a bit of a destination now with choices getting better for education.
“While it is great news that we will start with K-year 2, our long term goal is to source appropriate land to establish a full primary school,” she said.
Enrolments are now open, and an information session for interested parents will take place at the school site at 8 Table Street on Saturday, October 14 from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
Virginia Moller, CEO of Steiner Education Australia, and former principal of Kamaroi Steiner School in Sydney will be the speaker, discussing what Steiner Education has to offer young children in today's Australia.
Preliminary enrolments for Kindergarten to Class 2 will be taken on the day. The deadline for pre-enrolling in the Class 1-2 is October 30.
Families are invited to bring a picnic lunch for afterwards in Kooloonbung Creek Reserve.
