The retirees were the first residents to move into Seawide Estate.
They came from the Gold Coast and rented for a while before their new home was built.
“We just love the town and the people,” Mr Pogson said.
“The Gold Coast is too busy.”
Mrs Pogson cited the lovely beaches and the peacefulness as attractions of the area.
“It’s fantastic, you couldn’t ask for it to be better,” she said.
Sue and David Beveridge moved into Seawide Estate three weeks ago.
They relocated from Sydney to Port Macquarie, and finally to the Lake Cathie estate.
They live a mere six minute walk from the beach.
The infrastructure, medical facilities, location close to the beach and the level block made the area attractive.
Seawide Estate is just one of the developments in area 14 or the Lake Cathie-Bonny Hills growth area.
“You won’t recognise this place in 20 years’ time,” Mr Beveridge said about the planned growth.
Area 14 is among the urban release areas identified to accommodate future residential growth in the local government area.
About 300 new homes have been or are in the process of being built in area 14.
And there will be many more to come.
The developments are the result of planning dating back years.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council development and environment director Matt Rogers said the aim was to allow for urban expansion but to try to maintain the village feel.
He said a process was in place to ensure the relevant infrastructure was provided as the area grew.
