The final PhiloMusica concert for 2017 will feature a dynamic, young quartet of French Horn players from Sydney.
The concert is on Saturday October 28 with a pre-concert talk from 3pm, performance at 4pm at the Kendall School of Arts.
The Shiraz Quartet was founded in 2016 and features Sydney horn virtuosi Andrew London, Gemma Lawton, Pei Yin Xu and Sarah Morris.
The quartet covers a range of repertoire and genres from Schumann to Hindemith, from transcriptions of classics to jazz.
Whilst being Sydney based, the Shiraz Quartet often travels to experience different venues and areas. Their goal is to bring the uniqueness of a horn quartet together with sophisticated and entertaining repertoire to create an inspiring and unforgettable musical experience.
Their performance will be preceded by a pre-concert talk and discussion on the topic Music and Nature.
Associate Professor Goetz Richter, founder of PhiloMusica, will explore the question how nature and music are related, whether music is a phenomenon of nature or a product of culture alone and what might follow from the various answers to this question.
Tickets – $30 – for the PhiloMusica concert on October 28 can be obtained by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling Mavis Barnes 02-6559 4339.
