Organised by Lauren Stimson, the event was at the North Haven Community Hall on Saturday.

While more people would have helped make the event even more successful, Ms Stimson said the money will help with raising awareness.

“All the funds will be donated to Ovarian Cancer Australia,” she said.

“The people that did attend, really enjoyed themselves and had plenty of fun.

“Unfortunately there were several other events on at the same time.”

An online fundraising effort has already surpassed over $1200.

Ms Stimson said Saturday’s fundraiser was in memory of her mother Rosemary, who passed away in August. She was diagnosed just six years ago.

“Raising money won’t bring her back but raising funds and awareness of this awful disease may help others,” Lauren said. 

“I don’t want other women (mums, daughters, sisters, aunts and nans) to go through what my mum had to endure or their family and loved ones.” 

Lauren said cancer doesn’t discriminate and strike anyone at any time. 

“My mum was a beautiful, kind, gentle caring, giving woman who kept herself healthy but still got ovarian cancer.

“I hope one day we’ll be able to raise enough funds to help find a cure for this disease and all other cancers.”

Lauren said women should regularly consult their doctor about any health issues they might have.

“No matter how small they may think it is,” she said. 

The most common symptoms for ovarian cancer are abdominal pain, bloating and frequent urination.
