It is to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and is a great way to promote the important role of emergency crews in the community, while raising funds for the worthy cause.
Emergency services, including police, fire, ambulance and SES will visit the school on October 19 at 11.30am.
“It’s a great way to show the kids what our emergency service people do. It’s a great way of humanising what we teach the kids,” principal Jock Garven said.
“We want to have our children engaged in real life learning, to arm them to be safe and secure growing up in our community.”
Students are encouraged to wear red for a gold coin donation, with all money raised going to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
Day for Daniel is Australia's largest child safety awareness and education day with a goal to make Australia a safe place for all children.
Sand mania is back
The beaches from Gaol Point to the top of Rocky Beach will be transformed into an obstacle course as part of the revitalised Sand Mania 2017.
The Kosciuszko climb, dump onya mate, water weave and crab crawl will be some of the challenges on offer among the 27 obstacles at the November 12 event.
Sand Mania, designed to cater for all fitness levels, is all about a great day out with friends, family, colleagues or team mates.
One of the organisers, Steve Thomas, said the 2017 Sand Mania had been rejuvenated with a free T-shirt for entrants and new obstacles and events on the program.
The new obstacles and events on the program include:
- A timed corporate challenge with teams of four competing to take home the Corporate Cup.
- The main Sand Mania challenge which is an untimed event.
- Multi-Mania for those wishing to take on the course as many times as they like, and;
- Not forgetting the 6-12 year olds, Mini-Mania is also on the program, from 10am with every entrant receiving a medal instead of a T-shirt.
Mr Thomas said: “For school leavers, what a great way to unwind from the stresses of the just completed HSC exams with some fun in the sun with your friends.”
