Fiona Holtkamp said there were some very high quality exhibits shown at the show across a number of classes.
“The judges were spoilt for choice at this year’s show,” she said.
“The overall winner, our Best Exhibit in Show was the representative from the Gundog Group a Welsh Springer Spaniel - Supreme Champion Goldmaid Dangerous Player owned by D L and L Meagher
“There were some 260 entries this year across seven groups which are divided according to what the dog was bred to do.”
These include, Toys (lap dogs); Terriers (hunters of small vermin e.g. rats and mice); Gundogs (those which find game for the owners to shoot or retrieve shot game for their owners); Hounds (hunters of larger animals either by scent or sight for their master); Working Dogs (primarily breeds which herd or guard livestock); Utility (guard dogs, draft dogs - those which pull carts or sleds); and, Non Sporting (the breeds which are deemed hard to categorise into the other Groups).
Mrs Holtkamp said the groups are then divided into age groups for young puppies through to adult dogs.
“The best example of each breed competes against all the other Best of Breeds from within their Group to select Best Exhibit in Group,” she said.
“Then the seven Best in Groups compete for Best Exhibit in Show.

“The age groups compete against the other winners of their age group to decide the winner of their age class in group and these 7 compete for their age class in show.”
The winners were: The Toy Group was won by a Pug owned by Kathryn Minns. The Terrier Group was won by a Scottish Terrier owned by C E Moore and R Mallinder. The Gundog group winner was our Best Exhibit in Show. The Hound Group was won by an Afghan Hound owned by T/H Hearns/Greenfield. The Working Dog Group was won by a Puli owned by M and J Fisher and Gatford. The Utility Group was won by a Newfoundland owned by R C Nagle and H L Durrell. The Non Sporting Group was won by a Schipperke owned by G Cruse and N Curwen
A group of dog enthusiasts are largely responsible for the running of the event at the show. These include Royce, Fiona and Katherine Holtkamp along with Karen Anderson.
Various people have been running the dog section for the show society for some years.
“We picked up the running of the show last year after the previous lady was unable to continue with the task,” Mrs Holtkamp added.
Camden Haven Show Society Dog Section is not specifically part of a circuit, rather another dog show people can compete in with their dog/s.
Many dog shows are run throughout Australia on any given weekend.
“We look forward to welcoming another lovely selection of dogs for our judges to adjudicate next year,” Mrs Holtkamp said.
