Lake Cathie’s Chloe Slade, Molly Fraser of Bonny Hills, Fletcher Murray of North Haven and Bayden Smith of Bonny Hills received grants of $500 each under the Australian Institute of Sport’s Local Sporting Champions program.
Chloe Slade received her grant to take part in the 2017 Hockey NSW Field State Championships at Narellan and Molly Fraser the NSW CHS Girls Volleyball in Menai.
Fletcher received the grant for the NSW CHS Golf Championships at Pacific Dunes and Bayden Smith to assist with the costs of getting to Armidale to take part in the NSW U13 State Hockey Championships.
The Local Sporting Champions (LSC) program has been established to provide financial assistance to young people aged between 12 and 18 years when competing, coaching or umpiring/refereeing at an official national School Sport Championships or Australian Sports Commission (ASC) recognised National Sporting Organisation (NSO).
People can use the $500 grant towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when attending the nominated championship.
Presenting Chloe, Molly, Fletcher and Bayden with their awards on October 30 in Lake Cathie, Dr Gillespie congratulated the four athletes on their hard work and commitment to their respective sports.
“These young local champions are deserving of their awards and this assistance,” he said.
“They have spent a great deal of time trying to better themselves through many years of hard work, training and dedication and I am delighted more locals have made it to state representative level.”
