“It is a significant honour to be included as an Australia Day award recipient,” Mr Black said.
“Most volunteers help in the community not to seek awards, but it is always appreciated to be acknowledged, and humbling to be recognised,” he said.
Mr Black, said it is important to recognise those who are doing good things in the community and calls on people to nominate for the 2018 awards.
“I think it is really important to recognise those who are doing extraordinary things, because we are a town that has a number of volunteer groups with people doing wonderful things, and it is rewarding to be able to nominate someone as well.”
“Some people may think an act or project someone has done isn’t good enough, but the beauty of the local Australia Day awards, is that they go to ordinary people simply doing good things in the community.
“The awards aren’t given to an elite group of people, we are normal people going out about lives, volunteering and helping out,” he said.
Nominations close at 5pm on Thursday November 30, 2017 and all nominees must be Australian citizens who live, work or study in the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area.
