The council hosted a successful drop-in session with the community in late October.
“It’s encouraging to see the Kendall community work so closely with council and take an active interest in the development of a master plan,” said council director Jeffery Sharp.
“Close to 70 community members spoke with us at the recent drop-in session, where together we were able understand the issues and priorities for the Kendall main street and look at these in relation to council’s broader plans and the available funding.”
The plan focuses specifically on upgrades to four precincts within the town centre including River Street, Graham Street, Comboyne Street, the Village Green, bus stop precinct and areas surrounding the Kendall Community Op Shop.
The aim of the plan is to provide improvements to pedestrian and road safety, equal access for all mobility groups, highlight cultural and heritage elements and develop a ‘community green’ area.
The plan also focuses on cost effective outcomes which have a positive economic impact, can be supported by an implementation strategy and are backed by the community.
“A coordinated and inclusive plan for the Kendall main street is an important priority for council and we are encouraging the community to continue to ‘have your say’ during the development period,” said Mr Sharp.
The Kendall Main Street Draft Master Plan will be available for community input until Monday 27 November.
Following this period a recommendation will be presented to council for adoption.
People can provide feedback through the council’s website pmhc.nsw.gov.au/kendall-main-street
The plan can be viewed at council offices and libraries in Laurieton, Port Macquarie and Wauchope or at the Kendall RSL Club and Kendall Tennis Club.
