2017 Luke O'Neill Memorial Day on November 12

One of the biggest events on the Laurieton sporting calendar took place at Vince Inmon Fields on November 12.

Touch football players took part in the fourth annual Luke O’Neill Memorial Charity Shield Day to remember Luke who tragically passed away in 2013.

Team nominations co-ordinator Bec Faddy said there were 21 teams which participated in 2017 – with the focus on fun rather than results.

Faddy said it was an opportunity for community spirit to shine through.

“It’s an occasion where everyone from the community can support everyone else in a fun environment,” she said.

“It was a sport Luke loved.”

Also included in the day were a variety of other activities to keep everyone entertained, from raffles to sprint and three-legged races.

Each team played four games of touch football, 25 minutes per game and enjoyed a bunch of fundraising events.

Fundraising went to Trent Hardy and his family.

The Young Guns team won the competition’s grand final. The team also won in 2016.
