Karen is appealing to people to help those less fortunate by donating gifts and non perishable food for Christmas.
The group takes items right up to the day before Christmas to ensure those in need can enjoy the celebration.
“I’ve had people come to see me and been in tears because they’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of others,” Karen said.
Karen said some families who have received donations from the community have come back the following year to donate items themselves.
“It’s what this group is all about,” she said.
“People might need something and then they donate back to help others.
“It does make a difference, it’s a ripple effect.”
Laurieton Early Education Centre is supporting the group.
In 2016 Julie Davis drove two loads of donated items in her car from the centre to give to Karen to pass on.
“I’m so grateful to Julie and all those who contribute each year,” Karen said.
People can give new or used items which are in good condition. Karen said non perishable celebratory food items such as chips and soft drink are welcomed. People can also donate decorations and items associated with Christmas such as wrapping paper and bon-bons.
If you would like to donate items in the areas of Camden Haven, Wauchope or Port Macquarie please call Karen on 0447 292 008 or email aussiebattlerspayitforward@gmail.com
The group is also on Facebook as Aussie Battlers – Pay it Forward.
