What a great roll up for our pre Xmas outing, with 40 fisho's greeting our weighmaster, Bert Hayes. Although just short of the "Wozza", Dylan Byrnes, (fishing in the junior section) deserves a special mention. Dylan blitzed all bar one of the adults with a great bag from deep sea of Flathead, morwong, snapper, leatherjacket & a 1.3kg Teraglin for 95 points. Runner up in the juniors was Alex Elvin who also braved the bumpy conditions to land a bag of Flathead & Nannygai. Well done also to Brandon Rookes & & Lana Masterson. Top of the "Wozza" with 135 points, fishing in B & R was "lucky Agro", known to some of us as Gary Edwards. Gary's catch included Tailor, Bream, Salmon & a Jewie at 7kg, to tip out Lyndsay Byrnes weighing in Bream. B & R vets was a musical affair with folk singing Phil Harrison showing the way with Salmon & Tailor from that old country yodeller Dallas Mulligan weighing Tailor, Salmon & "Goggomobile Fish". The ladies only had a point the difference in B & R with Kaye, (notice the "E") Caddis just topping Linda Harrison. Kaye weighed in Tailor & Bream, while Linda showed her Salmon skills. The "burley" was aplenty out to sea with the bumpy conditions, with Owen Gill reigning supreme in the men's division landing a nice bag of Flathead, Trevally & Snapper, (one Red 2.1kg) to edge out John "Tempo" Templeton with Flathead, Snapper, Mowie & Sweep. Vets had Tom King ahead weighing Flathead, Morwong, Leather Jacket, Sweep & Mackerel from young Johnny Sinclair with Mackerel, Snapper & more Sweep. Margaret Sheridan won the Ladies deep sea with a bag of Snapper, Mackerel & still more Sweep. With all of the Sweep out there the ocean must be dust free. Estuary had two previously mentioned fishos to the fore with "Tempo's" nice bag of Blackfish, Flathead & Bream just edging out "Agro" who weighed in Bream & Flathead. Vets estuary, in weighmaster Bert's words, signalled that "THE FOX IS BACK". Yes, President "Fox" finally found some time to fish & weighed in some lovely Bream & Mullet to outpoint Bob Thompson, who took time out from chasing myna birds to weigh in some nice Flathead & a lonely Bream. Kay Isaac took out the Ladies estuary with another lonely Bream while Noelene Buckley showed the way in the Ladies vets with a nice bag of Flathead & Bream. Cindy Gale won the Lucky Door Prize, but the Mystery weight was not won & will jackpot to $75 next weigh in, 16th January 2005. A date to remember is the 9th January 2005, when our club will again be hosting the annual Family Fishing Bonaza, with heaps of prizes for heaviest of species & three mystery weight prizes at $100 each. More information will be available in The Courier at a later date or on advertising flyers around town. On behalf of President Graham, the committee & myself, I would like to take this opportunity to wish club members & readers alike a very merry Xmas & a happy & healthy New Year.

5th annual 'Christmas Chess' was again a lovely Day of Chess for 22 players. It was nice to see five players from Newcastle and some from Port and Taree. First prize and trophy went to John Marsden from Newcastle. Our players did well. Eight-year-old Kirsty and Elischa scored well and we have seen great improvement. Shane, Matthew and Endel did well.
Mid North Coast 4th Annual 'Blitz' was won by Peter Varela from Taree. Our Club members did very well indeed. So, this year was a good one for local chess. Be ready for a 'Day of Chess' on Sunday February 27, 2005.
Next Chess Club meeting will be Wednesday February 2, at 5.30pm.
We wish everyone who helped us to have another successful year of Chess - have a 'Happy Christmas' and better New Year!

An unusual specimen was found at the "Canopus" tie up where on Satuday evening a tourist from the "Banana Republic" Trevor, (not the tourist) Robb spotted and captured a box-jellyfish, very unusual for this far south any time of year. It's good to see the net at the entrance is working well.
On the estuary Roger Minns won once more with his flathead and bream haul.
Dave Fredricks won deep-sea with a variety of fish, one being a pearl pearch.
Peter Law collected his voucher with an average bream haul for the rock and beach.
One of our junior anglers Beau Lloyd won the lucky $50. Congratulations Beau - I'm sure you will spend it on Christmas gifts for the family or at least a cold one for your father.
On that note from all of us here at LHAFC have a great Christmas and all the best for the following year.
