FORMER Camden Haven High School student Kye Maurer’s passion for dance has taken him a long way from home.
Pursuing the dream of becoming a professional dancer became a reality when he was recently accepted into the Western Australia Performing Arts Academy.
The 17-year-old had a big year in 2008, having performed in a variety of high-class dance ensembles.
He was not only selected to perform in a Higher School Certificate call back program in Sydney but was also chosen to do the opening solo for the NSW Schools Spectacular.
After competing at the Grafton Eisteddfod he won the Tap Championship, Jazz/Modern Championship and Overall Dance Scholarship.
Kye’s mother Kim said she was very proud of what he had accomplished whilst studying his HSC.
“He also received the Creative and Performing Arts Award from Camden Haven High School for Outstanding Achievement in Creative and Performing Arts,” she said.
“At Taree Eisteddfod he won the Wendy Bourke Classical Ballet Scholarship and the Roma Liggins Scholarship for overall excellence.”
He was also a successful competitor at the Port Macquarie Eisteddfod having won the Tap Championship and Tap Scholarship.
Mrs Maurer said after Kye had completed the three-year-course in WA he hoped to join a dance company.
