Conditions for the three day event were very kind, with great waves and weather throughout the contest.
On Friday competitors were greeted with excellent 1.5 to 2 metre waves with plenty of sun and light off shore winds. All day the surf held up for the first and second round with local surfers all progressing through to the semi finals on Saturday.
Social activities centred around the Bonny Hills Beach Hotel on Friday night where a busy bistro and live music entertainment was enjoyed by all, especially the lady from the Shelley Beach Malibu Club who won the surfboard.
Competitors were again greeted with perfect conditions on Saturday morning although the wave size had fallen slightly to 1 to 1.5 metres, but again the wind was favourable being off shore and only light.
There were some mixed results in the semis which were again dominated by locals from Bonny Hills and Port Macquarie. A good crowd on the beach enjoyed a day of sun and good surfing by all the men, boys and girls to ladies with the younger brigade really excelling in these good waves.
For the finals on Sunday great conditions again included waves from 1 to 1.5 metres, with no breeze and plenty of sun.
33 locals competed in the finals which ranged from Cadets (under 14s) to over 60s including 10 surfers competing in the Australian Longboard Titles, which commenced on Sunday, so some events were rearranged.
Overall it was an excellent way for the Mal De Mer Club to celebrate its 20th year with most competitors indicating they will be back again next year.
The Club once again thanks all of its sponsors for supporting the event, some of whom have been with them since the inception of the Mal Muster.
