Jaivan was the youngest swimmer to represent the North Coast at this swim meet, and was lucky enough to swim in open events against the Queensland Swim team and international swimmers of all ages from Guam, Spain, Singapore, Indonesia and China. Jaivan performed very well on the day and swam personal best times in 4 out of his 5 races. He placed 1st in the 11yr boys 200 Individual Medley, 2nd for 11yr boys 50m Freestyle, 2nd in 11yr boys 50m Breaststroke, 3rd in 50m Butterfly, 7th in 100m Butterfly. Jaivan was also the only 11 year old to compete in the 200 IM open race.
Jaivan’s selection came after two large group development days held for selected swimmers at both Crescent Head and Ballina last month. Jaivan was selected specifically for his times and improvement since his first swimming carnival in December 2010. All other swimmers in the team had to have State qualifying times prior to December 2010.
Jaivan had the opportunity to recently meet and train with World Swimming Champion James Magnussen. Jaivan would love to one day reach his own goal of swimming at the 2020 Olympic Games.
A fantastic achievement for someone who started swimming competitively less than 12 months ago!
