REDBACKS began slowly conceding an early goal where we failed to clear the ball in our danger zone. However, by the 1/2 hour mark we were 2-1 up. 2 goals to Lach Sessions the first inspired by Ryan Squires and the second a solo effort - early in the second 1/2 that "D" word was forgotten and and we were left with 10 men.
Taree equalised and our body language was not great. 25 minutes in Dan Trompert put his hand up to lift the squad, a solo run was finished off with a screamer into the top corner of the net, once again Taree hit back and equalised and the game looked destined for an undeserved draw after all our exhausting efforts.
But hold the phone with 5 minutes to go tireless Mick Morson ball at feet decided to let a left footer go once again into the roof of the net to clinch the win - have not heard the crowd go off like that in quite a few years. Great game Redbacks players and fans and staff could not be more ecstatic!
LUSC RESERVES V TAREE
Our form has not been consistant E.G. slow starts lapses in defence and failing to put away chances, so the coaching staff left it to the players to do the prep talks, resulting in a vast improvement overall against a side thats undefeated, 0-0 at the break early in the second 1/2 a shot on goal was well saved by Lach Price however the ball cruely fell onto the head of Taree player and found its way into the net, from there on try as we did the score did not change. Heads up lads more improvement to come hopefully at Forster V Lakes next week. Thanks to Riley, Jake and Shannon, hope your available again next week as we picked up a couple of injuries, Ben Romer was named Man of the Match, with Lach Price not far behind. Thanks supporters, you were great. Go You Reds!
LADIES V PORT FC
This Saturday saw a return to form for the Camden Haven Redbacks Ladies team, as they took on Port FC in Round 11 of the Ladies Competition. Spurred on by a lacklustre performance the week before, and what's been described as an especially 'motivational' pre-game speech by Team Manager Tamara Burns, the team took to the field and showed the home crowd just why they remain undefeated.
The Redbacks dominated from the first whistle, and whilst it took a while to get on the board, thanks to some spectacular goal keeping from Port FC, once the first goal was netted by Midfielder Wade Bellamy, there was no stopping the Redbacks. Striker Jo Jones finally broke her voodoo with a goal not long after, closely followed by a beautifully placed screamer of a goal from fellow Striker Vikki Boyle.
The second half saw more of the same outstanding teamwork from the girls, resulting in a first grade header goal from birthday girl Renae Slade off a Danielle Buttsworth corner kick. Buttsworth was rewarded with her own goal not long after, taking the team's tally to a total of 5 goals.
Around the field, Buttsworth and Bellamy did an amazing job controlling the midfield, maintaining a settled game and providing numerous opportunities for other team members to score. Paris Gibson, Stephanie Hutchinson and Louisa Bailey all had exceptional games in the halves, making a number of breaks and providing some excellent crosses for the team's strikers. Abbey Raccani, shifting between the midfield and the forwards all game, did well to place constant pressure on the opposition, and continuously pressure the goalie. In defence, Olivia Ustariz and Halima Wambui, guided by the talented Ashleigh Harper, worked well to shut down the bulk of threats made by the oppositions forwards, whilst defender Sienna Buckley also played stupendously, even stepping into the sweeper role at times like a seasoned professional. Credit also to Keeper Danielle Bartlett, who whilst had limited touches on the ball thanks to some great defence, still managed to make some amazing saves, keeping the opposition scoreless.
All in all, the game showcased what the Redbacks Ladies are capable of, and what Coach Jose Ustariz believed is possible with his team.
Next week sees one of the toughest matches of the season, with the Redbacks taking on third place Port United, but Coach Jose believes the girls can come out victors once again. "Last time we played this team, we were a player short, but the girls lifted and came away with the win. This time though will be no easier, as the United team have strengthened their line-up over the past few weeks, and are keen to avenge their loss earlier in the season. I have no doubt though that the Redbacks can win the game, if they play smart and settled."
In other Redacks news, the 6 - 11's Annual Gala Day is coming up Sunday 21st July. Lock it in your calendar, and for more information, talk to your coaches, or contact the Club.
