As president of the Kendall Tennis Club, a mum to three boys and local police officer Wendy is someone who gives 100 per cent.
She and husband Darren support their boys in various endeavours and sporting talents in tennis and hockey.
As a police youth liaison officer Wendy is known to youngsters for her memorable talks on personal safety.
At the Kendall Tennis Club Wendy is a driving force as a leader and “doer”.
The club has gone from strength to strength and is recognised by Tennis NSW and Tennis Australia as a leading tennis club.
Thanks to Wendy’s passion for the club, Kendall has been put on the global map via the Australian Open.
Wendy and the committee inspired the club and the community to pitch in to win a national online competition (AO Blitz) for the right to choose a top seed player to represent their town at the tournament. Kendall smashed the competition, chose world number one Rafael Nadal as their man and is receiving plenty of media attention as a result.
Wendy hoped the attention will help the club lobby all and sundry for the funding and expertise to build an extended tennis centre in Kendall, which will accommodate their 270 members who currently vie for time on the club’s three courts.
Wendy says the new centre will be multi-purpose - courts able to be used for many sports not just tennis.
This, along with a bigger clubhouse, will mean youth activities will again be open in Kendall for those looking for a place to meet friends, engage in sport or just a safe place to hang out.
“I’m honoured to be the first Local Hero. A big thank you to One Agency and the Camden Haven Courier,” Wendy said.
“Huge thanks to my committee and members that have supported every project, adventure or challenge we have faced over the past 10 years without their support our club would not be where it is today. Our biggest challenge is ahead and I think we are getting close to achieving it. This donation from One Agency will go towards purchasing equipment for the 40 juniors 5 to 8yrs, so things like balls, Markers, mini nets, racquets etc.”
