Tin is recognised for her amazing work and generosity not only in the local community by for 80 young orphans ranging in ages from 3-16 in the Thukhita Yama orphanage in her home country of Burma.
Tin's selflessness and kindness began at a young age when she helped a young child shivering in the streets of Burma and quickly learnt the joy of giving.
In 1988 she was to face one of her greatest challenges when the Burmese economic crisis resulted in the United Nations declaring it the world's least developed nation, plummeting the country into turmoil and bankruptcy and wiping the savings of many of its people.
With military unrest and many of her friends losing their lives and sent to prison Tin was forced to flee the country becoming an Australian citizen in 1994.
Tin became a head Lecturer in Economics at University and has dedicated her life since seeking asylum from the ravages of her homeland, to enriching her local community and giving to others in need.
The founder of the Mid North Coast Refugee Support Group, a community group raising awareness about the plight of asylum seekers; trustee of the Kendall Hall; a member of the Kendall Country Women's Association; founder of the Kendall community cafe; a community garden advocate; member of the Kendall Op Shop; community and adult education teacher and she also recently returned to Burma to personally deliver money to the orphanage in conjunction with Rotary.
Tin says she owes her life to Australia and is honoured to contribute to the local community. A very inspiring and deserving Local Hero.
