The children who attend preschool on Wednesdays have been learning about parcels, letters and how the mail works. They have looked at stamps and have been writing lots of letters to each other and mastering how to work envelopes.
"We had found out that people post things in big red mailboxes, so we made our own for our classroom," said preschool director, Susan Crowle.
"The Australia Post 'P' was the most hunted and spotted symbol for many families."
The preschool staff and children have always given Wal a wave as he goes past on his postie bike, but they wanted to know more, so they wrote to Kylie at Kendall Post Office asking if they could come and find out about how the mail gets around.
"She wrote back on very official Australia Post paper (we could tell, because it had the 'P') and the date was set," Susan explained.
"All of the staff at the Kendall Post Office welcomed the children and respectfully and knowledgeably showed them all of the steps involved in getting the mail around the country. Of course there were more Ps than we could count, and now we are even more excited to hear Wal go by on his postie bike because we have seen how important his job is and we have all seen his bike close up."
