Saints ground out a victory at Findlay Park, but according to manager Mark Rogers, were far below their best on their home track.
Ibby Khodary, Tyson Devrimol and Tobi Dowton found the goal for Saints on Saturday.
Khodary opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half.
He smashed the ball home, giving the Wildcats' keeper no chance of stopping it.
Dowton's goal at the canteen end in the second half was the highlight. He tip-toed around a couple of Wildcats defenders at the byline before driving the ball into the net.
Devrimol completed the scoring with a good header to give the team a 3-0 lead.
Paul Galloway played a great cross in, making up for seconds earlier when he spurned an opportunity of his own.
Rogers was pleased his team "got the job done", but he knew the Saints had to come up with better in the last two rounds.
The Saints play Wallis Lake and Camden Haven Redbacks.
"We have an enormous last two rounds," Rogers said.
There were nail-biting moments at the other end of the park. Chris Newbound made a great save to keep his team ahead at 1-0.
"That was as important a moment in the game as any of the others," Rogers said.
Matt Goodwin had a good game in reserve grade for Saints, getting some mileage in the legs after coming back from overseas.
He'll feature in the top grade again soon, Rogers said.
"He's experienced and he just loves it," Rogers said of the Englishman Goodwin.
"He's like a kid when he plays out there. It's great.
"It's good enthusiasm for everyone."
Saints' reserves won 2-1.
