We had a total of 85 competitors ranging from seven years old in the JNC Civil Construction Under 12 Beginner Girls Caddy, up to 66 years old in the Bonny Hills Beach Hotel Over 55’s.
To determine the Mid North Coast Girls Classic champions for 2015 the girls contested a total of 53 heats in two days with 10 different age and board divisions. Competitors travelled from as far as Queensland, Lennox Head, Coffs Harbour and Sydney’s Northern Beaches to participate in a fun filled weekend of surfing.
In the true spirit of the Mid North Coast Girls Surf Classic the girls and women took to the waves with sheer style and grace.
Mid North Coast surfer girls dominated in all 10 divisions indicating that the standard of surfer girls emerging on the Mid North Coast are a force to be reckoned with in the sport of surfing.
Port Macquarie’s Jen Arnold showed how it is done placing first in the Big 4 Holiday Parks Open Longboard beating Mel Mott from Lennox Head. Bonny Hills surfer girl Sarah Stewart placed first in the Constable Screen Printing & Embroidery Under 14’s shortboard followed closely in second place with Bonny Hills surfer Klaire Fallon.
Mid North Coast Girls Surfriding sisters Chelsea Green and Lucy Green dominated all other competitors in their respective shortboard age events and were competing against each other in the Black Square Surfboards Open Shortboard. Eleven year old Lucy placed first demonstrating power and agility in performing some outstanding manoeuvres in the tricky conditions beating her sister Chelsea who placed second. The Green girls have a certain future in the world of competitive women’s surfing.
The weekend was a wonderful opportunity to provide a non-threatening environment for girls and to promote girls surfing on the Mid North Coast. The unique contest format used provides fun, fitness, friendship and most importantly participation regardless of age and or ability.
