THE GENTLE game of bridge may be considered an intellectual pursuit, but friendship and camaraderie are just as important to one local group.

Around 100 members of the Camden Haven Bridge Club and their guests gathered on Friday at the Laurieton United Services Club (LUSC) for a lunch to celebrate the club's 30th anniversary.
Given the club has been based at the LUSC for all of their 30 year history, it was an apt venue for the celebration.
Two original members have stayed with the club since it was formed in 1985, and still enjoy playing today.
Norma Feller says the game has been good to her. Although she plays twice a week she says she is still learning.
"It's an ongoing challenge to be successful at bridge and to get better," Norma said.
90 year old Ngaira Green agrees bridge is good way to exercise one's brain, adding that she also enjoys the social side to playing and the companionship.
According to current club president, Ray Innis, the club's 91-strong membership includes players from many different skill levels and proficiencies.
"It's one of those games that can take a lifetime to learn, and experience is often the best teacher," Ray said.
Regular sessions are held on Mondays, Thursdays and Friday. Visitors are welcome, and as the keen players say, "every hand is an adventure."
