What an eventful week it has been for the Camden Haven Hockey Club.
The individual teams have had mixed results on the scoreboard but as a club we have shown how much of a family we are with the support shown following the season ending injury to one of our seniors Rod “Charlie” Charlesworth.
Even though we have grown in numbers this season, our club is still very family orientated. Fun and fair play are shown by each and every player both on and off the field which is what the Camden Haven Hockey Club is all about.
So on to this week’s update for the U 13’s, U16’s, senior men’s and ladies teams. The ladies C Grade, the Black Mambas began this round of hockey on Wednesday night playing the ladies from Port City. The Black Mambas are improving so much each game under the coaching of Will Elliott and while they didn’t take the points this week, the skills and enthusiasm they show is great to see.
The A Grade men, the Anacondas were on Thursday night against the Wauchope men. Wauchope were buoyed by the return of some of their strong players and the Anacondas had a few regulars out, so it was going to be a tough game against the 2015 premiers. At the full time whistle, a 2-2 result was the score after a great game of hockey from both teams.
Friday night saw the C Grade men, the C Snakes, up against Port City. This week the C Snakes had some of the younger players out with other commitments but they played as a team with, some great attack and defence to see the game end in a draw 0-0.
Saturday morning was the U13’s time to play. The Cobras had the bye this week so it was up t the Boomslangs to fly the black and red colours for the club against the strong Thunder team. These players are really improving each game and their commitment to training is being reflected on the field each week. The Boomslangs didn’t get the win this week but they played fantastic hockey.
Saturday afternoon saw the B Grade men’s and ladies, the Black Snakes and the Vipers, playing the Thunder teams. The men’s Black Snakes had a few regulars unavailable, so some of the C Snakes players came to fill the gaps. It was a fast paced game from both teams with both goal keepers kept busy, but the Black Snakes played strongly in both attack and defence to see them come away with the win 4-0. Next to play were the ladies Vipers. The ladies were buoyed by the return of their coach, “Charlie” and played some of the best hockey for the day. Despite their effort they just couldn’t get past the Thunder ladies to get the win, going down 4-0.
Sunday saw the final games for the round with the U 16 teams, the Taipans and the Venom taking to the field. Up against strong opposition in Wauchope and Thunder, both teams gave their very best all game and it showed with the Taipans having a 2-2 draw with Wauchope and Venom only just missing out on a win with a 3-2 result to the Thunder team
All teams now have a week off from hockey, two weeks for the U13’s and U 16’s, for the school holidays. The Camden Haven senior “Snakes” will be back in action for round 5 from Wednesday 20th and all our junior teams taking to the field the week after for the start of the junior competition for 2016.
