This week saw all Camden Haven hockey teams, both junior and senior, in action and what a great week of hockey it has been for our mighty club, especially our two senior ladies teams.
The C Grade ladies team, Black Mambas, got the club off to a great start with a win on Wednesday night against the ladies of Port City, 1-0.
The Black Mambas have been improving steadily each week and it really showed on Wednesday night.
Thursday night saw the A Grade men, Anacondas, up against Port City. The Port City team have been in terrific form, taking the points over competition leaders Thunder recently.
The Anacondas played some of their best team hockey to date despite still missing some players with injury. The game was very evenly matched until Port City slotted two quick goals to take the win 5-3.
Friday nights’ game was the C Grade men, C Snakes, playing the Wauchope men. Wauchope have added some new players which has seen them rising steadily on the competition ladder.
Our C Snakes again called on some of the junior “snakes” to help and they again answered the call. In a nail biting game that saw both goal keepers getting a workout, Wauchope came away with the win 1-0.
The U7 “Baby Snakes” were first to play on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. They had a great time running around and having fun with their new friends.
Next up were the U9 “Tiger Snakes”, that are really showing some great hockey skills. The U11 “Red Bellies” were in action next, all ready to go after the bye last week and what a great game they played.
The U13” Boomslangs” had a bye this round while the “Cobras” played the team from Thunder. A fantastic game of hockey was played by both teams with the “Cobras” coming away with the points this week.
Next week’s draw will see our two teams, ”Boomslangs” and "Cobras" pitted against each other in what promises to be a great game of hockey from the young “Snakes”.
Saturday afternoon was warm and sunny, perfect weather for Snakes to strike and that’s exactly what our ladies B Grade, “Vipers” did against the ladies of Wauchope. In an outstanding game of hockey from both teams, the “Vipers” (affectionately known as “Charlie's Angels”), took the win 2-1 at the final whistle.
Saturday night saw the temperature drop and the dew settle on the turf making for a challenging game for the B Grade men, “Black Snakes” also playing Wauchope.
In a game that saw both teams scrambling in both attack and defence, the Black Snakes couldn’t find the back of the net despite their every effort and Wauchope took the win 1-0.
Sunday was time for our two U16 teams to play. First up was the “Taipans” against the very strong Thunder team. The “Taipans” played some great hockey but just couldn’t quite match the Thunder team despite being the first team to score. Great effort “Taipans”.
Next in action was “Venom” playing the Wauchope team. Wauchope had a few players unavailable today and at the full time whistle our “Venom” took the win this week. Next week’s game will see both teams playing each other for what will be fun and fast game of hockey.
It has been another awesome week of hockey action for all our “Snake Pit” teams, but without our amazing team of volunteers that work behind the scenes week in and week out none of these successes would be possible, so a huge thank you to our sponsors, executive members, coaches, managers, canteen supervisor and the mums, dads, nannas, pops, aunties, uncles, brothers and sisters that give your time so generously each week.
