CAMDEN Haven residents gathered last week to share cakes, slices and other sweet treats, as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Biggest Morning Teas are held in workplaces, homes and community centres each year, to support Cancer Council’s research, support services and prevention programs.
On Thursday, Elaine Howard hosted a festive function at her home in North Haven.
She and sisters Senga Hiley and Elizabeth Fowler organised the fundraiser to support their other sister Rosemary Stimson, who is fighting ovarian cancer.
“For us it’s not only about the fundraising, it’s also important to raise awareness and to support the research,” Elaine said.
The sisters were proud of all the baking and sandwich-making they had done, and their guests seemed suitably impressed.
They were also amazed at the support they had received.
“Every person I asked for assistance gave me something; the support from the community and local businesses has been amazing,” Elaine said.
Rosemary said she is also grateful for the support.
This is the third time her cancer has returned, so Rosemary understands exactly how important the Cancer Cancer’s research programs are to families like hers.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is the Cancer Council's most popular fundraising event and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia.
The funds raised from the event save lives through the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.
