The search is on for an injured horse missing in Bago State Forest.
Little Red is an 11-year-old chestnut horse, still wearing a saddle and bridle since he went missing on Sunday.
He and his owner, Maureen Feltham from Grafton, were taking part in the Bago Endurance charity event when he hurt himself.
Maureen choked back tears as she described how conditions were slippery, and he slipped at Milligans Road, and came down.
“I think he cut his back leg. He didn’t bolt. He just trotted away to the crest of the hell, and nobody has seen him since Sunday.”
Within an hour, a search had begun and Maureen says she’s amazed by how kind people have been.
“Everyone has been so helpful, in particular the locals. I can’t believe the help they’ve given us.”
Little Red has got distinctive shoes on, and they found fresh hoof prints yesterday. Tomorrow, (Thursday 21) they hope to cover the entire forest.
Kristy Cordell from Wauchope says the search will start at 10.30am leaving from the saleyards.
She says conditions are tough, but they’re determined.
“Anyone who can help, either walking, on horseback, a motorbike or a four-wheel-drive should come to the Wauchope saleyards, and we will comb the forest looking for Little Red.”
