LET’S all raise a glass and celebrate having a drink with friends!
That’s the aim of International Beer Day, which is held on the first Friday of every August.
Since it was first held in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, International Beer Day has grown into a worldwide celebration involving pubs, breweries, and back yards across 50 countries.
Far more than an excuse to down an amber liquid or two, International Beer Day is celebrated:
- To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer
- To celebrate those who brew and serve beer; and
- To unite the world under the banner of beer, celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day.
Beer is a truly global beverage, believed to date back to Neolithic times.
Today, beer is a great social equaliser as young and old, rich and poor enjoy an amber ale together in pubs, clubs and bars around the world.
"Drinking beer is an Aussie tradition."
- Dean Noble, Secretary Manager, Lake Cathie Bowling and Recreation Club
In recent years, much of the industry’s growth can be attributed to the small, independent brewers, who have injected new ideas and passion into the business of producing beer.
Lake Cathie Bowling Club is supporting International Beer Day celebrations in 2016.
“Drinking beer is an Aussie tradition,” said Secretary Manager, Dean Noble.
“Beer goes hand in hand with all types of sports in Australia, and in our case that’s lawn bowls.”
“We’re pleased to raise a toast to beer-lovers and bartenders everywhere.”
